Treading lightly on the planet has been at the heart of our business since the beginning. From stocking a large range of certified organic products made from sustainably grown ingredients to substantially increasing our energy usage from solar panels, we are always looking to improve our environmental footprint. Below you can read a little bit more about what we are doing to reduce our impact on the planet.

We are proud to be the nation’s favourite gluten free flour brand. Our range of flours have been developed and perfected over many years, so you can make delicious bakes no one will know are gluten free.

Certified Gluten Free by Experts

We are certified gluten free by Coeliac UK, the UK’s leading authority on gluten free living and coeliac disease. All our product carry their Crossed Grain symbol of certification.

Award-Winning Quality & Taste

With over 30 awards over the years, our foods are regularly recognised for their quality by both the Great Taste Awards and the Free From Food Awards.

Championing plant-based, organic and sustainable food

We’re proud to say all our foods are plant-based and suitable for vegans – and 60% are certified organic by the Soil Association (while being gluten free, of course). The benefits of a plant-based diet and organic farming practices in supporting the environment and reducing climate change are widely documented.

We use a small amount of organic Identity Preserved RSPO-Certified Sustainable Palm Oil in our cookies and oat bars, which is the highest standard of accreditation possible from the RSPO ensuring full traceability. Ours comes exclusively from South American suppliers who set aside at least 10% of their land for ‘wildlife corridors’ valuable for the natural fauna and flora.

Reducing our packaging

74% of our packaging is recyclable, with all our flour, baking essentials, breakfast cereal and pasta packaging being 100% recyclable. We have made strides recently to reduce the packaging used in transporting our products. We are members of OPRL and are moving to improved recycling labelling on our packaging to make it clearer for customers to know how to recycle it in the right way. Increasing solar energy sources

As part of our ongoing investment in renewable energy we have installed solar panels on site in recent years, giving us now an estimated annual total output of around 150,000 kWh. We provide all office and manufacturing colleagues with access to electric vehicle charging points to use while on site.

Reducing waste

We are conscious of processing any waste generated through production in a sustainable way and endeavour to compost, repurpose or recycle the vast majority. We have one full-time employee solely dedicated to sorting recycling to ensure our waste is processed correctly. Through this careful processing, we don’t send any waste to landfill.

Minimising food waste

6.6 million tonnes of food is wasted every year in the UK. We’re keen to minimise any food waste when creating our gluten free foods. At FREEE, we aim to bring back the joy and pleasures of gluten free home baking. It all began when Clare, our founder and CEO, experimented with flour blends around her kitchen table more than 40 years ago, driven by a love of baking and a desire to help her mother, who had been newly diagnosed gluten free.
