Gluten Free Onion Bhajis
About this recipe:
These well-known savoury snacks are delicious served warm with plain yoghurt and chutney, stuffed into pitta bread or to accompany curry dishes.
Equipment:
large oven dish, frying pan, kitchen paper and mixing bowl
Ingredients:
75g FREEE Gram Flour
2 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp ground coriander
1 tsp turmeric
½ tsp salt
½ tsp mixed spice
4 tbsp water
50g potato, grated
100g onion, grated
5 tbsp oil
Method:
- Line an oven dish with two sheets of kitchen paper.
- Put the gram flour, cumin seeds, coriander, turmeric, salt, mixed spice and water into a mixing bowl and stir to make a paste.
- Finely grate the potato and coarsely grate the onion.
- Tip them into the bowl and stir thoroughly.
- Put the oil into a frying pan over a medium heat.
- Take a rounded spoon of the mixture and carefully slide it into the hot pan.
- Cook the bhaji, turning it regularly, until golden brown on all sides.
- OR, cook bhaji’s in a deep fat fryer according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Using a slotted spoon, lift the bhaji onto the prepared oven dish and cover to keep warm.
- Repeat the cooking process with the remaining bhaji mixture.

These look good and taste delicious ? I can’t have onion,but I can eat the green part of the spring onion. I put in fresh coriander too.

Gorgeous recipe - the nicest bhajis any of us have ever tasted and so simple to make. I made a couple of small changes - also added 1/4 teaspoon mild chilli powder and chopped the onion very fine rather than grate having once had an unfortunate experience with grated onion! I also found it needed a drop more water than the 4 tbspn. Congratulations - an absolute winner
